Pembroke Pines power comes from FPL: report outages at 1-800-468-8243 or fpl.com, and see the map at fplmaps.com. City water emergencies after hours: 954-986-5011.

Electricity in Pembroke Pines comes from Florida Power & Light (FPL). Outages, downed lines and power restoration all go to FPL, not the city: the city’s emergency management FAQ says plainly that it does not contact FPL about outages and asks residents to report them to FPL themselves. Water and sewer are a different story; they come from the city’s own Utilities Department.
Who to call
- Report an outage, any time: FPL, 1-800-468-8243 (1-800-4OUTAGE)
- Report or check status online: FPL outage reporting
- Live outage map: fplmaps.com
- Sparking or arcing power line: 911
- City water or sewer emergency after hours: 954-986-5011; business hours 954-518-9000
- City storm hotline (when the Emergency Operations Center is activated): 954-565-9571
When the power goes out
- Check your breakers and whether neighbors are out too.
- Report it to FPL by phone at 1-800-468-8243 or online. FPL’s online tool also shows the status of an outage you reported.
- Get updates in the FPL mobile app. FPL says you can text “App” to MyFPL (69375) to get a download link.
- Watch the map: fplmaps.com shows outages across FPL’s territory.
In a hurricane, the city switches on its emergency hotline, 954-565-9571, which answers questions on power outages, evacuations, shelters and road closures, according to the city’s Pembroke Pines Prepared page.
Streetlights out
A dark streetlight is not always FPL’s. The city’s Code Compliance page says streetlights on Pines Boulevard, Flamingo Road, University Drive, U.S. 27, Douglas Road, Palm Avenue and other public roads go to the city at nonemergencyresponse@ppines.com; I-75 and Turnpike lights go to FDOT; lights in private communities go to the homeowners association; and lights on Sheridan Street from University Drive to I-75 are reported to FPL online.
Downed lines and storm safety
From Broward County’s hurricane guide:
- Treat every downed power line as if it is live. If a line is sparking or arcing, call 911.
- Walk carefully and stay out of standing water, which can hide downed lines.
- Do not go out after dark, when you may not see a line that is still energized.
- Do not drive unless it is an emergency; traffic lights may be out.
- Do not trim trees or plants growing on or near power lines yourself; only trained professionals should work near them. FPL’s tree guidelines are at FPL.com/Reliability.
Before a storm
- Sign up for city alerts through Alert Pembroke Pines; its optional notices include utility outages and water main breaks.
- The city says to be ready to be self-sufficient for at least seven days after a hurricane.
- Portable generators of 10,000 running watts or less are exempt from Florida sales tax all year. See our hurricane prep guide.
- The city publishes a list of generator-equipped businesses (PDF) on its emergency management page.
- If someone in your home depends on electric medical equipment, consider the county’s special needs shelter registry.
Water and sewer during an outage
The City of Pembroke Pines Utilities Department runs the city’s water and wastewater treatment plants. If water pressure drops, a sewer backs up or the water is off, call Utilities Customer Service at 954-518-9000, Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5:45 p.m., or the after-hours line, 954-986-5011, evenings, Fridays, weekends and holidays. Boil water notices, if any are issued, come from the city.
Running a generator safely
From the federal government’s Ready.gov power outage guide:
- Use a generator only outdoors, and keep it and its fuel at least 20 feet from windows, doors and attached garages.
- Install carbon monoxide detectors with battery backup in central locations on every level of your home. Carbon monoxide has no smell.
- Keep the generator dry and protected from rain or flooding; touching a wet generator or anything plugged into it can cause a shock.
Complaints about service
If you cannot resolve a problem with FPL, the Florida Public Service Commission, which regulates investor-owned utilities, takes utility complaints online.
Starting or moving service
New residents start electric service with FPL and water service with the city; see our moving to Pembroke Pines guide for the start-service pages.
