Bulk trash and yard waste go out twice a month and are collected by a second company, Eastern Waste Systems. Curbside recycling has been suspended citywide since 2022. Your trash days
Collection days vary by neighborhood. Type your address into the city’s pickup day map to see both your trash days and your bulk day.
The city’s rules for carts:
- Put the cart at the curb before 7 a.m., lid opening facing the street.
- Keep it at least 3 feet from other carts, vehicles, mailboxes and trees, with nothing overhead.
- Do not block sidewalks, driveways or storm drains.
- Bag all trash before it goes in the cart, and keep the lid fully closed.
- You cannot refill the cart for a second pickup the same day.
- Bring the cart in after collection.
Carts come in three sizes: 35 gallons (up to 125 pounds), 65 gallons (up to 220 pounds) and 95 gallons (up to 340 pounds). Call Waste Pro to swap a cart, replace a broken one or add a second.
Never put hot ashes, household hazardous waste, medical waste, construction debris or bulk items in the cart.
Recycling is on hold
The city’s recycling page says residential recycling was suspended in 2022 because of high contamination, rising costs and limited processing options, and that the city is still studying ways to bring it back. Your blue cart has two uses for now:
- Extra garbage: for $2 a month, Waste Pro empties the blue cart once a week on your old recycling day. You need a decal on the cart; request it from Waste Pro at 954-967-4200.
- Keep it: the city asks residents to hold on to blue carts in case recycling returns. Since May 13, 2026, you can ask the Public Services Department to take the cart away by calling 954-518-9060.
Holidays
The city’s holiday rule is short: there is no collection on Christmas Day, and service resumes on your next scheduled day. The city lists no other holiday changes. During storms, check ppines.com for service notices.
After Christmas, the city asks residents to use Broward County’s Chip-a-Tree program. Otherwise, cut a natural tree into pieces for the cart or put it out on your bulk day.
Bulk trash and yard waste
Eastern Waste Systems collects bulk and yard waste twice a month on your scheduled bulk day. The rules from the city’s bulk page:
- Up to 10 cubic yards per home per pickup, about the size of a standard 10-yard dumpster.
- Bulk trash and yard waste can share one pile.
- Bag, tie or bundle leaves and small branches.
- Keep piles 3 feet from mailboxes, trees, parked cars and overhead wires.
- Appliances that held Freon are taken only with a technician’s sticker and tag showing it was removed. Refrigerators also need their doors and compressor taken off.
Not collected: glass of any kind, contractor-generated debris (tree removal, permitted fencing, renovations), hazardous waste, hot tubs, boats, engines, tires and other oversized items. Eastern Waste Systems will quote a separate pickup for oversized items.
Bigger piles: each home can request two extra pickups a year for a pile over 10 cubic yards by calling Eastern Waste Systems. After that, the city’s FAQ lists a charge of $15 per cubic yard over the limit.
Do not put bulk at the curb when a storm is approaching.
Construction debris and roll-off containers
Waste Pro holds the city’s exclusive franchise for construction and demolition debris and roll-off containers. Contractors may use containers they own; otherwise they must use Waste Pro, and the city says a homeowner whose contractor brings in another company can be cited by Code Compliance. Order a container from Waste Pro at 954-967-4200.
