City Hall and Broward County libraries close for the holiday, and Broward County Public Schools let out for the summer the Friday before.

The ceremony (2026 details)
From the city’s 2026 notice:
- When: 9 a.m. Monday, May 25, 2026
- Where: Donnith H. Fletcher Park, 7900 Johnson St.
- What: the Pembroke Pines Police and Fire Honor Guard presented the colors, and veterans, community leaders and guests joined a wreath placing. Everyone was welcome; it was free.
Why Fletcher Park. The park is named for Donnith H. Fletcher, the first Pembroke Pines resident killed in the Vietnam War. The city says Fletcher and seven other soldiers were aboard helicopters shot down on June 30, 1970; he received the Purple Heart posthumously, and in 1971 the city named the ball fields and park near Johnson Street and University Drive for him.
The city also keeps a Veterans Memorial and a 9/11 memorial at Memorial Park, next to City Hall at 601 City Center Way.
